Butterfly Release
According to an American Indian Legend,
if anyone desires a wish to come true
they must first capture a butterfly
and whisper that wish to it.
Since a butterfly can make no sound,
the butterfly can not reveal
the wish to anyone but the
Great Spirit who hears and sees all.
In gratitude for giving the beautiful
butterfly its freedom,
the Great Spirit always grants the wish.
So, according to legend, by making a wish
and giving the butterfly its freedom,
the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted
Shannon and Paul, please present a butterfly to each of your cherished family members and friends.
At this time, I would like to invite you all to make a circle around Paul and Shannon.
In a moment of shared reflection, I now invite each of you to embrace Paul and Shannon in your minds and hearts. Imagine them as you have know them through the years, and as they come before you this day to join themselves in marriage. Then, frame your hopes and wishes for them and their relationship, and whisper these wishes to your butterfly.
Everyone makes a wish.
I invite you all to release your butterflies into the magic of this place!
Poem read by Erika
If I had to live my entire life in just one
day
I would choose today
If I had one dream to fulfill
It would be this dream
If I could be with only one person
It would be you.
I would speak so only you would hear
I would laugh so only you would laugh in return
I would cry so only you would hug away the hurt.
If all my wishes were to come true
They have thiss moment
If luck ever shined in my life
It is now
If sorrow comes tomorrow
I have already loved a lifetime...today

Sand Ceremony
Paul and Shannon, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings, and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand; one representing you, Paul, and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. The other represents you, Shannon, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be.
Paul and Shannon alternately pour black and white sand from two glasses into one, forming an interwoven pattern.
